Liverpool leave Champions League with pride

Liverpool played a brilliant game at Stamford Bridge, but despite scoring 4 goals, the Reds couldn't get the right result. Liverpool fans and staff were proud off there players, as Liverpool did al there best to qualifie therselves for the next round.
Before the game there was some very bad news for Liverpool. Steven Gerrard wasn't fit enough. A big problem for the Reds cause all there amazing comebacks recent years were because of goals by the skipper. Benitez putted Lucas Leiva on the pitch, and the Brazilian played brilliant.
So Liverpool started the game with the knowledge that they had to score at least 3 times. Fernando Torres had the first real chance of the game in the 13th minute, but he's shot was wide. He normally doesn't missses this kind of opportunities.
And than in the 19th minute: Free-kick to Liverpool on the left, which Fabio Aurelio will deliver with an inswinging ball into the box... GOAL!!! He spots Cech out of position and drills a low shot into the right-hand corner!! Brilliant free-kick from Aurelio, spotting Cech out of position, faking to drift a cross into the box and drilling it low into the net with his left foot. The Chelsea goalkeeper won't want to see any replays of that but it is game on!!
So for Liverpool everything went according to plan, they scored inside 20 minutes.
Just 9 minutes after the first goal, Aurelio took another free-kick. This time he chose to cross it and ... PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL! Ivanovic made the foul on Alonso and Liverpool have a chance to make it 0-2 after just 30 minutes. Alonso took it and ... GOAL! 0-2 TO LIVERPOOL. Just one more to go for the Reds.
Dirk Kuyt could have made it 0-3 just before half-time, but he's header was saved brilliantly by Cech. 0-2 was the score at half-time.
Liverpool started the second half with lots of hope after scoring twice in the first half.
But than it was Chelsea who took over control.
Anelka crossed it, Drogba with a minor touch and Reina totally missed it. 1-2, not a big difference, we still had to score 1 goal to get extra-time. But this was a moral boost to Chelsea.
And just 6 minutes later, in the 57th minute, Chelsea had a free-kick.
Alex smashed it home, 2-2. Was that the goal that knocked Liverpool out of this Champions League?
Things got even worse for Liverpool, 15 minutes before the final whistle Frank Lampard mada it 3-2 to Chelsea. Game over!
Or not?
In the 81th minute Lucas, who played really well, had a shot at goal... Deflected and ... IN! 3-3, is it possible?
Sure it was possible! Just 2 minutes after Lucas' goal ... Riera with the cross ... KUYT!!! 3-4 TO LIVERPOOL, WHAT'S GOING ON? WILL THE COMEBACK KINGS DO IT AGAIN? The Reds had still 7 minutes plus extra-time to score again! What a game!
But Chelsea didn't panicked and in the 89th minute Lampard scored again to make it 4-4.
Ngog had a chance to make it 4-5 but hes shot was cleared off the line by Essien.
That was it, Liverpool hade done there fans proud. They played really well, scoring 4 times at Stamford Bridge. It wasn't enough though.
Everybody at Liverpool Football Club was proud of there players. And as a proof of there pride, Liverpool fans gave the players a standing ovation at Anfield on Wednesday were there was a memorial service to mark the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

Liverpool destroy Blackburn: 4-0

The Reds had to give the fans a good game after the poor result against Chelsea on Wednesday, but Liverpool had to miss the skipper, who got some rest for Tuesdays game at Chelsea.
Liverpool started with the following 11: Reina, Insua, Agger, Carragher, Arbeloa, Mascherano, Alonso, Benayoun, Reira, Kuyt and Torres. On the bench we had: Gerrard, Dossena, Skrtel, Ngog, El Zhar, Lucas and Cavalieri.
Liverpool started the game really well, and just like on Wednesday against Chelsea, it was Fernando Torres who scored after just 5 minutes. It was Carragher with the cross, Torres controled the ball his chest, he spinned and ... GOAL! A wonderful strike by El NiƱo to make it 1-0. Great start by Liverpool.
Kuyt had a great chance to make it 2-0 in the 27th minute, but the Dutch international couldn't find the back of the net.
But than, in the 34th minute, free kick to Liverpool. Curled in and there's TORRES! 2-0 to Liverpool! Great header by Torres, his second of the game! It looks like he's back on form.
From than on the Reds controlled the game. They had some chances, but they played calm, knowing that there is a vital game in prospect.
And than in the 83th minute ... AGGER! Great hit by Dan Agger to make it 3-0. He was 35 yards out, and than out of nothing, he fires an absolute cracker right into the top corner! Robinson no chance at all!
By than Ngog was in and he made it 4-0. It was Lucas with the providing header, Ngog couldn't miss. So 4-0 it was.
Look at this: Liverpool have scored 14 goals in there last 4 home games and only concieded 3 goals, all against Chelsea.
The Reds go 2 points clear of Manchester United, who play later on today at Sunderland.

Gerrards injury not so bad

A scan on Steven Gerrard’s injured groin yesterday has revealed a slight strain to his abductor muscle. First there was a chance that Gerrard would be out for the rest of the season, luckely it's not that bad. Gerrard probabely won't start on Saturday, Liverpool host Blackburn, so that he would be fully fit for the second-leg against Chelsea on Tuesday. There is a small chance tough that he will be fit for Saturdays game.

Alonso: "Let's focus on Blackburn"

Liverpools Xabi Alonso hopes his teammates will not let the Chelsea defeat derail their renewed title challenge. The 27-year-old Spaniard knows that Liverpool can put extra pressure on Manchester United, who visit Sunderland on Sunday, by winning against Balckburn. He also says that it will be a hard game and that Blackburn will do everything they can to get something out of this game. Xabi thinks that Man Utd are the favourites to win the League, but Liverpool will do everything they can to claim there first title in a long time.

Arbeloa: "Remember Istanbul"

Right-back Alvaro Arbeloa has just one answer to the question or Liverpool can qualifie thereselves for the semis of the Champions League: ISTANBUL!
Arbeloa said: 'In that final, Liverpool had to score 3 times in 45 minutes, and they did it, so why can't we do it when we have 90 minutes to do it? It's going to be very hard,' he said, 'but it's not yet over!' Just after the game, Rafa Benitez also confirmed that Liverpool still have a chance.
But the major question is: will Steven Gerarrd be fit? The Liverpool skipper might have a groin injury, wich could keep him off the pitch for several weeks.
All the great comebacks Liverpool have made, were because of Gerrard.
For more details about our great comebacks, have look below.

Can Liverpool score 3 goals at Stamford Bridge?

After yesterdays 1-3 defait against Chelsea at Anfield, things are looking bad for 'the men in Red'. They know they have to score 3(!) goals at Stamford Bridge. Looks impossible. Or not? It wouldn't be the first time Liverpool achieve something against all odds. Remember that special night in Istanbul back in 2005. Or the 'Gerrard final' in 2006. Or Gerrards cracker vs Olympiakos in 2004. With Liverpool, it's not over untill the final minute has ended.
Have a look at some stunning comebacks in the recent years.

8 December 2004: Liverpool - Olympiakos 3-1

It was the last game of the group stages of the Champions League and Liverpool knew that a 1-0 victory would see them trew to the knock-out stages. If Olympiakos managed to score, Liverpool had to beat them with a 2-goal lead. And things started bad for Liverpool. In the 27th minute, Brazilian star Rivaldo scored with a free kick for Olympiakos to give them a 0-1 lead. Liverpool now had to score 3 goals in 1 hour.
In the 47th minute Pongolle scored for Liverpool, was it possible? But all hope was gone when after 79 minutes the score was still 1-1. But when Mellor made it 2-1 in the 80th minute, Liverpool fans started to believe again. And then, in the 86th minute... GERRARD... O YOU BEAUTY, WAT A HIT SON... We all remember the emotions of the reporters. Gerrard scored a beauty wich is named as he's best goal for Liverpool so far. Liverpool won the Champions League that year!

Have a look at Gerrards goal:

25 May 2005: AC Milan - Liverpool 3-3

This is probably the greatest return ever. Milan started the game as massive favourites, and they played like favourites. After 50 seconds Maldini scored for Milan. Liverpool were behind from the start. And things got even worse for Rafas men. Another 2 goals from Crespo (39th and 44th minute), gave Milan a 3-0 lead at half-time. Victory was certain for the Italian giants. But Liverpoolfans never give up, and at half time the only chants that you could hear in the stadium was Liverpools You'll Never Walk Alone.
But there was hope when 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Mr. Livepool, Steven Gerrard, scored with a great header to make it 3-1. Milan were in shock, and just 2 minutes after Gerrards goal, Vladimir Smicer scored the 3-2. Suddenly everything was possible. And than, 3 minutes after the 2nd goal, Steven Gerrard was brought down in the penalty area and Xabi Alonso had a chance to make it 3-3. He placed himself behind the ball, and... DIDA SAVES IT, BUT WAIT ALONSO... 3-3, the Spanish midfielder scored the rebound. Liverpool scored 3 times in 7(!) minutes. A MIRACLE. And so it stayed. Shevchenko had two great chance in the last minutes of extra-time, but Dudek was immense that night. Liverpool won the game 3-2 on penalties. A stunning comeback from the Reds, in the best European Cupfinal ever!

13 May 2006: Liverpool - West Ham 3-3

Just a year after the Champions League victory against Milan, Liverpool faced West Ham in the final of the FA Cup. And yet again Liverpool started the game poor. An own-goal by Jamie Carragher (21th min) and a goal by Ashton just 7 minutes later gave West Ham a 2-0 lead over Liverpool. But Liverpool were used to this stuff, so goals by Cisse and Gerrard cleared our West Hams goals. Liverpool had done it again! But in the 64th minute, Konchesky gave West Ham a 3-2 lead. I looked like it was over when it was still 3-2 in the 90th minute. But than, Steven Gerrard did it again! He unleashed a cracker from far distance to make it 3-3, and again penalties would decide the game. The Reds won 3-1 on penalties.
